New PostDoc: Ewan McRae

On June 7th, our new PostDoc Ewan started in our group. He previously worked in Dr. Sean McKenna's lab at the University of Manitoba, where he investigated RNA G-quadruplexes and associated helicase proteins. In our group, he will work on single-particle cryo-EM analysis of RNA-protein complexes using RNA origami scaffolds.

Visitor from the Turberfield Lab: Joakim Bohlin

Currently, Joakin Bohlin, a PhD student from the Turberfield lab at Oxford University is visiting our lab. Joakim is a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher in the DNA robotics ITN. His focus is on modular assembly of DNA and RNA simulations.

On the 1st of June, the technical news site Ingeniøren brought a news story about the achievement of producing synthetic E. coli (as described below). Ebbe Sloth Andersen was asked to comment on the findings.

Ebbe Sloth Andersen comments on dr.dk news story

On May 15th, the scientific breakthrough of producing synthetic E. coli was published in Nature. It comes from the lab of Jason Chin (Cambridge), with the dane Julius Fredens as first author. The Danish news site Danmarks Radio (dr.dk) featured a news story about the findings, in which Ebbe Sloth Andersen commented on the amazing research.

Congratulations to Ane for successfully defending her PhD thesis on taking RNA nanotechnology in vivo in E. coli and C. elegans.

We introduce genus trace and find that it encodes interesting physical and biological information about the three dimensional structural complexity of RNA and protein molecules.

Welcome to Adrien Boussebayle

Adrien Boussebayle starts as a postdoctoral researcher November 2018. He did his PhD studies in laboratory of Beatrix Suess as part of the MetaRNA PhD school. His main research focus is on selection procedures to develop novel sensor elements.
